The 3 things you NEED to know about fuel contamination!

AdBlue In Diesel

All over Berkshire we are encountering progressively more cases of AdBlue contamination when a person has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel tank. This is to some extent as a result of motorists being unsure of the way to work with it (take note: it's in fact not a fuel additive), and in part simply because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are usually directly next to one another on the vehicle.

Well, what's the situation with putting AdBlue in a diesel vehicle?

Seeing that AdBlue is primarily deionised water, it is actually just like putting water in your tank. Diesel and water don't mix at all and trying to run a diesel car on water cannot work. In addition, the urea is fairly corrosive to fuel system pipes and seals and is at risk of crystallisation, damaging injectors and fuel filters. If in case you poured AdBlue in a fuel tank get it drained immediately. And certainly be careful not to crank the motor - not even to move it off of the pump. If you did start the car you would almost certainly have to have the full fuel system purged and filters changed out.

Give us a call if it turns out you are struggling with AdBlue contamination. We can help. We are Specialists in dealing with contaminated fuel and can easily correct all kinds of AdBlue contamination.

Boat Fuel Drains

If you've got the wrong fuel, or perhaps contaminated fuel (most typically water contaminated or old fuel) in a boat we can certainly remove it. As long as the boat is either dry-docked, or situated near enough to a car or truck parking spot we should be able to reach the fuel storage and drain out the fuel. We've performed numerous fuel drains at marinas and boatyards throughout the country.

Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car Beenham Stocks

I'm not that inclined to doing work Sundays, and a week ago was the same. I'd just left home after eating a fantastic roast prepared for us by the missus, and I was en route to assist a man after he had filled the incorrect petrol in his modified Audi RS 6. He was stationed in Beenham Stocks thus it wasn't a long time before I reached him. As I arrived at the rear of the car and started work he explained to me "Praise the Almighty! I stupidly had my mind on other stuff and did not ascertain I'd put diesel in my petrol vehicle. I need to know if I caused any harm as a result of starting it?" I revealed that generally there probably should not be any kind of problems and also I would personally get the wrong fuel drained right away. As expected I got the contaminated fuel drained from the car and filled it with some suitable fuel, and thus yet another delighted motorist could continue his ride without fuss. He did not stop thanking me, and that is actually what makes working on weekends in Berkshire that little easier to me!

Wrong Fuel Doctor Beenham Stocks - Fuel Rescue Beenham Stocks

It truly was the graveyard shift. It was about 3 in the morning and almost noone was about. It had been fairly uneventful up to now, and Brian and I were loafing looking at several old newspapers. That was a rare peaceful time in Berkshire. It was indeed that tranquil that the moment my mobile finally rang I jumped! The voice on the opposite end stated: "I've only just finished my overnight shift and stupidly poured petrol in my diesel canary yellow Land Rover Defender". I asked him to tell us where exactly the car was and we headed out, reaching him in Beenham Stocks less than an hour or so later. The incorrect fuel was cleaned from the vehicle. He said thanks for showing up so promptly. While we were coming back home we spotted two girls on the side of the street who looked like they suffered a flat. Accordingly we pulled up to help them change it, much to their elation.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
